#Spotlight | Tekno Miles

Hello everyone, welcome to the maiden edition of 213lounge on gbedu radio. Here we talk everything and anything from music, movies, fashion, life, family, sex, travel, religion, politics, rainfall, stem cells…err well almost everything. This week on Spotlight we take a close look at a Nigerian artiste who is the toast of the airways, night clubs and every sound-playing device owned by an African and some non-Africans. Let’s just say he is the life of the party right now.

Augustine Miles Kelechi doesn’t come across as your typical Nigerian name, take out the kelechi and you are staring at a completely ‘Akata’ name. However, Augustine miles kelechi is fully Nigerian, Born and bred. In fact, born in Bauchi state in Nigeria to a now retired soldier in the Nigerian army from Ebonyi state. Augustine miles kelechi, popularly known as ‘TEKNO MILES’ or ‘TEKNO’ is our star focus this week.Tekno is a singer-songwriter, producer, performer and dancer. Tekno was born to do music, by age eight he could already play the piano, drums and guitar. He was in the church choir, part of a dance group in high school and started composing music way before his senior days. He claims his father was a big influence on his career as his father enrolled him in a music school at age 7 and was always supportive of his music career.

Tekno was first discovered and signed under K-Money Entertainment. His first single titled "Holiday" which featured vocals from Davido was a hit and received massive airplay across Nigeria. In 2012 while in Abuja, Tekno Miles was spotted by renowned Nigerian comedian Julius Agwu at an event after Tekno received a standing ovation following the performance of a song titled "Onye Ne Kwu", his remix of Ice Prince's "Oleku". It was at the same event he met Iyanya and Ubi Franklyn, the manager of Made Men Music Group who he became friends with. Ubi and Iyanya eventually encouraged Tekno Miles to move to Lagos to join the group. On October 5, 2013, he signed a music contract with Made Men Music Group under which he released singles like "Dance" and "Anything" which won him a nomination in the "Best New act of the Year" category at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. On June 18, 2015, Tekno Miles released a song titled "Duro" produced by DJ Coublon, which was positively received. A remix which featured Phyno and Flavour N'abania was released on November 16, 2015.

Tekno has a penchant for hit songs, but opinions are divided on his ability to deliver on a music album. Some would argue that making one hit song is easy compared to a 12 or 18 track album with likeable tunes all trough. Tekno doesn’t seem to care much as he is back again with his latest single called ‘pana’. Pana in my opinion is a slang/lingo for something sexual. In the song he talks about a girl called folake, he wants her to love him, drive around in his Porsche, he talks about all the things he wants to do to her, so he urges her saying ‘baby pana’.

I think Tekno is a clever artist and tried to appeal to a wide audience with specific references in this song. For example, the Yoruba ladies would like the mention of ‘folake’ in the song, especially the ones name folake. The chorus had a bit of ibo in it and the mention of Gwagwalada (a city in Abuja) would definitely catch the ear of his northern lovers. One could even go further and say the video for the song which was shot in a studio-created Asian/Japanese set would resonate more with the foreign fans. In all, simple details like these have played a huge role in how far this song has been received and I must say, pana, released on the 22nd of July 2016 is a huge huge hit.

Tekno is top class and we wish him the very best in everything that he does, be it dropping only hot singles, dancing, acting or just being a ladies man.
That’s it this week on spotlight, next week should be awesome, I lay my thoughts bare on an artist who has had to break a lot of barriers and is still breaking barriers. Stay tuned and continue listening to gbedu radio. I remain O.B.A Ajayi, follow me on Instagram @dimeji213.
